Hungry Hungry Hippocrite is both a social and political commentary. The Hippopotami are one of the most dangerous wild animals due to their aggressive and unpredictable nature. Hungry Hungry Hippocrite is meant to satirize the current popular game of politics. We (as Americans) play, while underemphasizing the fact that real lives are at stake. Representing for the Dreamers and the many immigrants being held in detention centers are my friends and family, people who are immigrants and first-generation born U.S. citizens. I emphasize scale in two different directions. The people become smaller to fit inside the marbles, this is to draw attention to the dehumanizing aspects of keeping in captivity those who have come for our help. The game board has become larger to emphasize the reach that Donald Trump has gained through politics.
This series was created in technical collaboration with Dr. Diana Arboleda and Dr. Ramon Montero.
