Monica Leslie Travis is a Miami born sculptor. Travis received their BFA from Florida International University in 2005, and their MFA from University of Miami in 2020. Travis’s early work was comprised mostly of figurative sculpture, hand forged in mild and stainless steel. Over the years Travis’s work has evolved in scale and complexity and has grown to include many materials and processes. Travis’s work began to incorporate time as an integral element around 2014. While at University of Miami, Travis focused their efforts mostly on creating a body of work made from technology based tools and the coinciding materials.
